‘A revelation … confirms the arrival of a major talent’ – Building Design
'Adjaye is the young wonder of the London design world’ – TIME Magazine
‘David Adjaye is the “it architect” of the moment’ – Evening Standard Magazine
One of the most exciting and accomplished young architects to emerge on the international scene in many years … Adjaye is enjoying enormous and ever-increasing worldwide attention. This book celebrates a young talent at the height – and yet at the beginning – of his creative powers.
The innovation in Adjaye’s career is exemplified in his residential works, constructed in a range of settings, which show careful experimentation and exquisite nuances. Perhaps his best-known houses are those constructed are those for such people as artist Chris Ofili and and actor Ewan McGregor.
Four essential components make up this, Adjaye’s first monograph: an introduction by Stuart Hall; a documentation of thirteen of Adjaye’s most important projects, presented through descriptions, detailed plans and photographs; a series of visual essays that highlight the tactile, luminous and luxurious nature of Adjaye’s work; and essays from cultural critics who have been touched by his buildings.
David Adjaye OBE, founder and Principle of Adjaye Associates, is Visiting Professor of Architectural Design at Princeton University. Among his other books are David Adjaye: Making Public Buildings and Adjaye • Africa • Architecture both of which were edited by Peter Allison, an exhibition curator and teacher.
