Moving Pixels Blockbuster Animation, Digital Art and 3D Modelling Today
Peter Weishar Foreword by Phil Tippett
| The art of the computer-generated image (CGI) has become one of the most astounding applications of digital technology, making possible the creation of fictitious worlds and make-believe characters that are so realistic they fool the eye and the mind.
This is the first comprehensive collection of three-dimensional CGI images from today's film studios, animation and special-effects houses and digital artists.
Here are spectacular images from Academy Award-winning films, blockbuster games, hit television series and commercials. Included are Star Wars: Episode I and II, The Hulk, Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Lord of the Rings and Shrek, as well as relatively unknown jewels from studio-made short films.
Importantly, this volume showcases gallery-quality 3D computer-generated artwork that pushes the technical and creative limits of the medium. The international selection of fine artists includes some of the most influential individuals in their field, with work ranging from detailed scientific visualizations to painterly still lifes and surrealistic abstractions.
Peter Weishar is Professor and Dean of the School of Film and Digital Media, Savannah College of Art and Design. Weishar is also an accomplished computer artist and animator. He is the author of Blue Sky: The Art of Computer Animation. Phil Tippett, founder of Berkeley-based Tippett Studio, is a film director and an award-winning visual effects supervisor and producer who specializes in creature design and character animation. He has earned two Oscars (out of six nominations), as well as two Emmys.
