The Treasury of Celtic Knots Aidan Meehan
| This is the most complete compendium available on these marvellously decorative and versatile designs.
More than a century ago, the pioneering work of John Romilly Allen inspired generations of Celtic artists. However, until now his definitive collection of the surviving repertoire of Celtic knots from authentic sources has only been available in a little-known academic journal.
In his earlier book, Celtic Knots: Mastering the Traditional Patterns, famed Celtic artist Aidan Meehan explained the basics of knotwork in a step-by-step course, using the simplest knots as building blocks.
Now, in this new book, he presents all the knots as Romilly Allen found them and finishes the figures he provided. The knots are no longer clipped out of context, with loose ends, but developed into whole new ornaments, shown in two colours and in a variety of treatments.
Since discovering the triple-grid method of Celtic knot design in 1974, Aidan Meehan has been researching and practising Celtic knot design. He is the author of the eight-volume Celtic Design series and Celtic Alphabets, Celtic Borders, The Book of Kells Painting Book, The Lindisfarne Painting Book and Celtic Knots, all published by Thames & Hudson.
