Earth, water, air, fire and aether: traditionally, just five elements were thought to have emerged from primordial chaos to create form and order throughout the cosmos. Join expert curator and image alchemist Stephen Ellcock in his awe-inspiring visual exploration of the building blocks of all matter. Evocative and diverse images, drawn from countless cultures and thousands of years of imaginative and scientific enquiry, showcase the sublime beauty, myriad qualities and profound power of the elements, and reveal their manifold associations with the planets, seasons, parts of the body and signs of the zodiac. Following in the footsteps of The Cosmic Dance and Underworlds, this remarkable compendium explores how, through the universal symbolism of the elements, we can discover the interrelation of all things and recover balance and harmony on Earth and in our lives.
