Time owner Henry Luce bought LIFE magazine in 1936, solely so that he could acquire the rights to its name, and launched a major weekly news magazine with a strong emphasis on photojournalism. Life was published weekly until 1972, as an intermittent special edition until 1978, and as a monthly edition from 1978 to 2000.
John Loengard?s distinguished career in photography has largely been in the context of his long association with LIFE magazine. He is also the founding picture editor of People magazine. His books include Pictures Under Discussion, LIFE Faces, Classic LIFE Photographs, LIFE Photographers: What They Saw, The Great LIFE Photographers and As I See It.
Gordon Parks was one of the very greatest of LIFE?s photographers.
